The Best Arthouse Films of Summer 2009

Summer isn't just for popcorn. While "Transformers" and "Harry Potter" were bringing out mainstream audiences in droves (despite being mediocre), six splendid, complex arthouse films were attracting smaller, more discriminating audiences. They are (in no particular order):

-- A Woman in Berlin
-- The Headless Woman
-- The Hurt Locker (the no.1 film of 2009 so far)
-- Humpday
-- Cold Souls
-- The Girlfriend Experience

Plus two arthouse gems from the spring, "Sin Nombre" and "The Limits of Control," continued to be shown to some degree in the summer. All of these are highly recommended.
